There is a noticeable state of tension within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Appeal Court is set to announce its verdict on Ladi Adebutu’s petition against Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Adebutu, the PDP candidate, had initially approached the tribunal to contest Abiodun’s victory in the governorship election held on March 18. Alleging that the election did not adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act, Adebutu claimed irregularities and corrupt practices, contending that over 40,000 voters were disenfranchised due to violence. His plea to nullify the election and declare him the winner was dismissed by the tribunal led by Hamidu Kunaza, citing a lack of merit in Adebutu’s petition.
Undeterred, Adebutu took his case to the Appeal Court, seeking a reversal of the tribunal’s decision. The court proceedings are set to take place at the Court of Appeal in Igbosere, Lagos, starting at 9 am.
Members of both the APC and PDP have left Ogun State to witness the proceedings in Lagos. The outcome of the Appeal Court’s judgment is awaited with heightened anticipation by supporters of both political parties.
