President Bola Tinubu has authorized the appointment of Mr. Olatunji Bello as the incoming Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), pending confirmation by the Senate.
According to a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, media aide to Tinubu, Mr. Bello is a lawyer, administrator, and distinguished journalist. He previously served as the Secretary to the Lagos State Government and holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, where he also studied Law and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.
Mr. Bello launched his journalism career at Concord Newspapers in 1985, where he held key editorial roles including Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor, and Editor of National Concord. He is a recipient of the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship and was appointed Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001. Additionally, he served as Commissioner for Environment in various Lagos State administrations.
Ngelale expressed President Tinubu’s expectation that the new CEO will effectively fulfill the commission’s mandate to safeguard and advance the interests and welfare of Nigerian consumers. This includes ensuring the implementation of measures to uphold the safety and quality of goods and services across the nation.
