KAA Gent defender Jordan Torunarigha is determined to secure a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Although he previously represented Germany at youth levels, he later switched his international allegiance.
The 26-year-old received his first call-up to Nigeria’s national team for the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in September. However, he had to wait until last month to make his debut in a friendly match against Mozambique.
As the Super Eagles are preparing to compete in Cote d’Ivoire in January, Torunarigha is hopeful of being selected by head coach Jose Peseiro. He expressed his commitment, saying, “I’m giving my best and hoping to be chosen. It’s always an honor to represent Nigeria.”
He also mentioned that nine players from his team could potentially be called up in January, which is a significant number. Nevertheless, Torunarigha remains focused on the upcoming matches, including their trip to Iceland, where he expressed confidence in dealing with the cold temperatures, as he is accustomed to taking ice baths.
