Residents of Oriire local government in Oyo State are in grief following the tragic demise of three monarchs from the area on Friday night. The fatal incident occurred in a collision between a Benz E230 with the registration number OLODOGBO and a commercial Scania Truck with the registration number 301 XF at Aje Iye in Oriire local government area.
Sadly, two of the affected monarchs lost their lives immediately, while the third succumbed to injuries a few hours later at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. Out of the six passengers involved in the crash, the three survivors are currently receiving medical attention at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. The unfortunate incident happened as they were en route to a social function in a nearby community.
The identified monarchs impacted by the tragedy are the OLODOGBO of Odogbo, Onibowula of Bowula, and Alayetoro of Ayetoro in Oriire local government area.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Joshua Adekanye, confirmed the details of the road mishap, describing it as a head-on collision between a private vehicle and a commercial one along Ogbomoso-Oyo expressway. He further stated that the survivors are being treated at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, and the deceased monarchs’ bodies have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
In a separate incident on the same day, Adekanye reported that a DAF brand Truck caught fire along Ogbomoso-Oyo expressway, resulting in burns for nine out of the 13 passengers. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and the injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
