Troops kill 43 terrorists, apprehend 76 in South-South

In the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria, the Nigerian military successfully eliminated 43 terrorists and apprehended 76 individuals, as revealed by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, in a statement provided to the media. Additionally, the troops detained 29 suspects involved in oil theft and rescued 27 hostages who had been kidnapped. The military operation resulted in the recovery of 81 assorted weapons and 2,150 various ammunition.

The retrieved arms included a range of firearms such as an NSVT AA gun, a GPMG, a PKMG, 36 AK47 rifles, an RPG 7 tube, 2 AGL bombs, 4 pump action guns, 4 locally crafted guns, 8 dane guns, 3 shotguns, a cut-to-short dane gun, 2 beretta pistols, a damaged AK47 rifle, 2 RPG chargers, wooden stocks of AK47 rifles, an LMG magazine, 8 bandoliers, and 42 magazines. Additionally, the recovered items encompassed various rounds of ammunition and explosives.

Moreover, troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and demolished 7 dugout pits, 13 boats, 23 storage tanks, 2 barges, and 4 vehicles. The military operation also led to the recovery of 139,045 litres of stolen crude oil, 25,115 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 5,200 litres of DPK. The seized assets included 15 cooking ovens, 2 pump machines, and 16 illegal refining sites.

Major General Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to addressing threats posed by kidnapping gangs and terrorists across the country. He assured that the Armed Forces would consistently evaluate internal processes to effectively counter identified threats.
