The New York Police Department (NYPD) is seeking to revoke former President Donald Trump’s gun license following his conviction, according to a senior police official.
The official, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that Trump’s concealed carry license was quietly suspended on April 1, 2023, in New York City after he was indicted on criminal charges.
Agenda Newspaper reports that a New York jury found Donald Trump guilty of falsifying business records to cover payments made to a porn star ahead of the 2016 presidential election, making him the first former American president to be convicted of a crime.
The source added that two of the three pistols Trump was authorized to carry were handed over to the NYPD on March 31, 2023, while the third gun listed on Trump’s license was “lawfully moved to Florida.”
Since the possession of firearms by a convicted felon is a federal crime, Trump, who was convicted of 34 felonies on May 30, 2023, would be violating multiple federal and state laws if he still possesses the third gun in Florida.
The NYPD’s Legal Bureau is concluding its investigation, which will likely lead to the revocation of his license, although Trump has the right to challenge the revocation in court, the senior police official stated.
Multiple law enforcement sources confirmed that Trump has held a concealed carry license from the NYPD for nearly a decade. However, due to a confidential request in Trump’s application, the details are exempt from public records requests under NYPD guidelines and New York state law.
The suspension and potential revocation of Trump’s license indicate that he retained his license throughout his presidency and afterward until he faced felony charges. Despite this, as a former president, Trump is still entitled to full-time Secret Service protection from the U.S. government.
