Warri, Port Harcourt, Kaduna refineries will begin operations by December – Senator Ipinsagba

The Downstream Committee of the Nigerian Senate has announced that the country’s three government-owned refineries will be fully operational by January 2025.

Senator Jide Ipinsagba, the Vice Chairman of the Committee and representative of Ondo North Senatorial District, stated that the retrofitting of the Kaduna, Warri, and Port Harcourt refineries is nearing completion.

Ipinsagba also mentioned that the Dangote refinery in Lagos State will soon start refining Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. He expressed the committee’s satisfaction during their on-site assessment of the refineries as part of their oversight duties.

He assured that refined petroleum products would be exported once domestic consumption needs are met.

“Efforts are in high gear to ensure all refineries are operational before the end of this year. We conducted oversight visits to all the refineries and received promising updates based on our observations.

“The Port Harcourt refinery is currently at about 90 to 95 percent completion in terms of retrofitting. The Warri refinery is at approximately 80 percent, and the Kaduna refinery is at around 70 percent.

“The Dangote refinery is ready to start operations any moment now. With these developments, meeting internal fuel consumption will not be an issue, and we will have the capacity to export our refined oil,” Ipinsagba stated.
