We’ll bring back indigenous arraigned minors to Kano – Gov Yusuf

Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, has announced that his government will make every effort to ensure the return of minors arrested in connection with the #EndBadGovernance protests, who are believed to originate from the state.

Agenda Newspaper Reports, the minors were among those arraigned on Friday during the protests. It has been reported that the arrested individuals come from various places, including Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano.

They are facing charges such as terrorism, arson, and treasonable felony. During the proceedings at a Federal High Court in Abuja, four minors collapsed and were immediately removed from the courtroom. The court later granted N10 million bail to each of the 72 individuals involved.

This action has drawn criticism from numerous Nigerians, including notable politicians and civil rights advocates. The prosecutor for the Federal Government, Rimazonte Ezekiel, claimed that all those charged are adults and mentioned that many are married. However, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, pointed out that the youngest person charged is only 13 years old.

In his official comments on X, Governor Yusuf said he has tasked the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, to act promptly regarding the situation. He stated, “I’ve been informed about the presence of teenagers in court today in Abuja. The Commissioner of Justice has been instructed to take immediate action. We will do all we can to return them to Kano, in sha Allah.”
