WHO Donates Infection Preventive Materials, Others To Borno Gov’t

The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated infection prevention supplies, nutritional items, and other essential materials to the Borno State Government to enhance healthcare services in the state.

During the handover ceremony in Maiduguri on Friday, WHO Country Representative Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo stated that the donation aims to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly for vulnerable women and children.

Mulombo emphasized that the contribution reflects WHO’s commitment to strengthening Borno’s healthcare system, with a focus on child protection and nutrition. He noted that the donation is part of WHO’s broader efforts to support children in a state that has faced severe humanitarian challenges due to the prolonged Boko Haram insurgency.

Representing Dr. Mulombo, WHO’s Emergency Manager for North-East Nigeria, Kumshida Balami, praised the state government and the Ministry of Health and Human Services for their efforts in addressing humanitarian crises.

Receiving the items, Borno’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Malum Gana, stated that the donated materials would help combat the spread of communicable diseases such as cholera and address acute malnutrition, particularly in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.

Prof. Gana highlighted the state’s ongoing challenges, including recent flooding and the over decade-long Boko Haram insurgency, which has led to widespread malnutrition, especially among children.

The donation includes 3,500 admission cards, 3,500 rotation cards, 300 infection control kits, 300 environmental cleaning supplies, 300 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE), 300 sharp injury prevention kits, detergents, and other essential supplies.
