The Bayelsa Police Command has initiated an inquiry into the death of a mother of three whose decomposed body was found discarded in a drain along Akali street in Yenagoa, the capital of the state. ASP Musa Mohammed, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed this development in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
Mohammed stated that a police team had removed the corpse and commenced an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding her demise. He mentioned that no suspect had been apprehended yet, but efforts were underway to identify those responsible for her death.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman’s body was discovered on Sunday morning due to a foul odor emanating from the drainage where she was dumped. Observers noted that the condition of the body suggested she had been strangled before being disposed of in the gutter.
Residents of Akali street identified the deceased as Ese, originally from Egbo community in Delta, known for trading in cow skin, commonly referred to as Kpomo, at the Opolo market in Yenagoa. It was also revealed that she had separated from her husband in April 2023. (Source: News Express)
