Why I May Choose To Quit Politics – Gov Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State says he would prefer to quit his political carrier than to be involved in bloodletting violence.

The Governor made the assertion on Sunday during an interview with journalists on the sideline of the first plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Governor Uzodinma distanced himself from category of politicians who would use violence to achieve selfish ambitions, particularly during elections.

He said, “I don’t belong to the class of politicians that will encourage violence. I don’t belong to the class of politicians that will spill blood (to win elections).

“I will rather prefer not to be a politician than to be an instrument of violence. If you recall the history of elections in Nigeria, it has always been greeted with anxiety in the beginning.”

Imo State had in recent time, suffered several security challenges following face-off between outlawed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and law enforcement agencies.

Many security personnel have been gunned down, while police stations were burnt in the State due to the alleged activities of the IPOB’s security wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN
