Wike vs Fubara: Tinubu’s intervention failed, godfather, son must end crisis – Shehu Sani

On Wednesday, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, asserted that President Bola Tinubu’s attempt to mediate in the conflict between Governor Sim Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had failed.

Sani suggested that resolving the dispute is now the responsibility of the political mentor and his protege, as Tinubu’s intervention did not yield positive results. In a post on his X social media platform, Sani stated, “Presidential intervention failed to bring peace to Rivers; everything is now left to God, Godfather and Godson.”

The ongoing discord between Wike and Fubara revolves around the political structure of Rivers State, with the former accusing the latter of abandoning the framework that led to his ascension to power. In response, 27 members of the State House of Assembly aligned with Wike defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Subsequently, the Rivers State government carried out the demolition of certain sections of the Assembly complex.

Despite the turmoil, Fubara presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly on Wednesday, addressing a plenary attended by five members loyal to him. Notably, the 27 lawmakers were conspicuously absent during the budget presentation, and their seats have been declared vacant by the Speaker.
