You made Kaduna ungovernable with debt – Atiku’s ex-aide, Bwala knocks El-Rufai

Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku-Okowa presidential campaign, has accused former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State of rendering the state ungovernable. Bwala attributed this to the substantial debt burden of $587 million and N85 billion that El-Rufai’s administration left behind.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State disclosed inheriting a significant debt burden, including $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from El-Rufai’s tenure. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Kaduna over the weekend, Sani expressed the challenge of settling workers’ salaries due to the immense debt profile.

In response, Bwala expressed hope that Governor Sani would find effective governance strategies, invoking divine intervention for assistance.

In a post on X, Bwala emphasized how a leader can make a state ungovernable by either allowing insecurity to escalate or leaving an insurmountable debt burden. He highlighted the alarming debt figures left by the previous administration, describing it as a significant impediment to effective governance.

Bwala also raised concerns about the state of education in Kaduna, particularly the reported existence of over 2000 unfenced schools, which he deemed as potential hotspots for kidnappings. He called attention to the gravity of such issues, emphasizing the need for proactive measures by relevant authorities, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
