Six months after the murder of Taiwo Oyekanmi, the Director of Finance for the Ogun State governor’s office, security operatives have yet to apprehend his killers.
Oyekanmi was killed on November 29, 2023, after withdrawing a large sum of money from the bank for government use.
According to DAILY POST, about five masked gunmen hijacked the bullion van while it was ascending the Kuto Bridge in Abeokuta. They opened fire on Oyekanmi, broke the van’s door with sledgehammers, and escaped with the money.
The accountant was taken to the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, where he later died.
In response, the Ogun State Government offered a N50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the killers.
Despite this, no arrests have been made six months later.
In February, the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, stated that the investigation into the murder was at an advanced stage while briefing the press on the command’s 2023 activities.
However, when contacted on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, did not provide an update on the case. Instead, she encouraged the correspondent to provide any information to the police.
“Please, you can also be a good informant to the police; you are also an investigator. You can contribute immensely by giving information to the police,” she said.
