Akwa Ibom State Chief Judge, Justice Ekaete Obot, expressed her shock at the passing of Justice Felicitas Ibanga of the State High Court, who died while still serving.
During a tribute on Friday in Uyo at a special court session in honor of the late judge, who served the state judiciary from 2001 to 2024, the Chief Judge noted that Ibanga endured her pains with dignity without neglecting her duties.
Describing Ibanga as an upright, strict, incorruptible, and knowledgeable jurist worthy of emulation, Justice Obot highlighted Ibanga’s hard work, steadfastness, and high standards in judicial proceedings.
Justice Obot said, “Due to her passion and dedication, she was appointed to the Jigawa and later the Zamfara State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Sokoto State.
“Justice Ibanga returned, took a rest, and resumed work at Okobo High Court before falling ill. She bore her pains with great dignity.”
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice Uko Udom, paid tribute to Ibanga, calling her a remarkable professional, public servant, and jurist dedicated to excellence in all she did.
Udom said Justice Ibanga will be remembered for her brilliant presence, rulings, and impact as a judge of the Akwa Ibom State High Court for nearly ten years.
Mr. Augustine Udoh, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Uyo branch, said Ibanga has left a void, and her intellect and expertise will be deeply missed.
Udoh praised Justice Ibanga’s exceptional judicial acumen, unwavering integrity, and commitment to justice and fairness, which left indelible marks on many lives and the NBA.
Mr. Joshua Ibanga, her husband, described her as a pillar of support, saying that no one else could take her place as a virtuous woman.
“You were beautiful inside and out.
“I will cherish the sweet and painful memories we shared over 30 years together forever.
“Your demise has created a difficult-to-fill vacuum in my life, especially when I thought you were recovering,” he said.
