Group demands full implementation of Orosanya Report

The Akwa Ibom-based socio-cultural organization, Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, has urged President Bola Tinubu to fully implement the Stephen Orosanye Report to help reduce the country’s governance costs.

In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of its 54th General Assembly in Uyo, the group also called for a reduction in the size of the Federal Executive Council.

Signed by President Mr. James Edet and Secretary Mr. Bassey Bassey, the communiqué stated that the Orosanye Report offers solutions to the high cost of governance. The report, initially released in 2012, recommended streamlining and reducing the number of government departments and agencies, and advised that any savings from these changes should be reinvested into programs to enhance citizen welfare.

The group expressed concern that the Federal Government has not yet merged some ministries, agencies, and departments as suggested by the report.

The communiqué further recommended that the Federal Government consider replacing the current bicameral legislative system with a unicameral one and take substantial measures to reduce the size of government to alleviate economic hardships.

Additionally, the group urged political leaders to use public funds more patriotically to support projects that benefit the public. Regarding the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, the group acknowledged the right to protest but advised against any violent or criminal behavior that could damage the country’s international reputation.
