Grace Adagba, the Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), recently undertook inspection visits to several Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) schools in Makurdi Local Government Area.
The inspections began on Thursday and covered various schools in the Makurdi region.
During her visit, Adagba encouraged parents to enroll their children aged 2 to 5 years in ECCDE centers throughout the state, highlighting that all public primary schools now offer these facilities.
Accompanied by Mr. Jacob Ukaha, the Education Secretary of Makurdi LGA, Adagba explained that the purpose of the visit was to review ECCDE centers in preparation for the upcoming school year.
The schools visited included: LGEA Primary School Wurukum, LGEA Central Primary School Makurdi, NKST Primary School Wadata, St. Mary’s Primary School North Bank, LGEA Primary School Ichwa North Bank, Holy Family Primary School Kanshio, NKST Primary School Gaadi, and LGEA Owner Occupier.
Adagba stressed the importance of beginning classes on the first day of school and encouraged head teachers to actively market their schools to attract more students.
“You are expected to start teaching on the first day of resumption. Prepare your lesson plans now,” she advised.
She noted that there have been changes and emphasized that improvements are expected, stating, “It’s no longer business as usual.”
Adagba reminded staff that government teachers are not part-time workers and should report to their posts even during vacations.
She also made an unannounced visit to the Makurdi Local Government Education Authority and Zonal Office. She urged the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Gom Clement, and his staff to stay committed to their duties, emphasizing the vital role of SUBEB Zonal Offices in monitoring schools and reporting to the Board for prompt action.
In response, Mr. Bartholomew Atsar, Headteacher of LGEA Primary School Wurukum, expressed his satisfaction with the improved welfare conditions for teachers under the current administration and committed to working diligently to enhance the standard of basic education in the state.
