‘Final warning’: Defence minister tackles Amaechi for asking Nigerians to protest hardship

Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, has condemned recent comments made by Rotimi Amaechi, accusing the former Minister of inciting unrest and encouraging violence among Nigerians.

Amaechi had recently called for protests against the economic difficulties currently being experienced in the country.

In a statement released by the Director of Information in the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, which was shared with DAILY POST on Saturday, Matawalle issued a strong rebuke to Amaechi, advising him to cease making inflammatory remarks that could threaten national unity and stability.

Matawalle voiced his concerns about the potential consequences of such statements.

“It is highly irresponsible for someone of Amaechi’s status, a former public official, to stir Nigerians against their government,” Matawalle stated.

He continued, “At a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working diligently to tackle the nation’s challenges through a series of impactful reforms, it is disgraceful for anyone to use the legitimate struggles of our citizens for political gain.”

Matawalle reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining peace and security for all Nigerians, making it clear that any attempts to incite unrest would be dealt with severely.

“We will not stand by while anyone stirs violence or manipulates the hardships of the people for selfish ends. This is a final warning to Amaechi and those aligned with him,” the minister stated.

“It would be expected for Amaechi to collaborate with the government to drive progress, but instead, he chooses to make shortsighted and divisive claims,” Matawalle added.
