The Anambra State Ministry of Health has successfully shut down an illegal wine factory involved in producing counterfeit exotic beverages, imitating well-known brands.
In a joint operation with the state’s paramilitary unit, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), the ministry apprehended seven suspects in Nkpor, near Onitsha, and closed down the facility.
As reported OCHA Brigade officers conducted the raid on the fake manufacturing company, which had been producing large volumes of fake wines and other counterfeit exotic drinks in the state.
The factory had allegedly been operating for several years, distributing unauthorized fake wines in bulk to unsuspecting consumers.
A press statement from the Anambra State Ministry of Health stated, “This operation was executed by the Federal Government’s Presidential Taskforce in partnership with the Anambra State Government to fight against economic sabotage and oil vandalism.”
“Seven suspects have been arrested, while more individuals are being questioned to identify the networks responsible for the extensive circulation of fake products that have contributed to several health issues in Ndi Anambra.”
The suspects have already been charged in court and are set to face prosecution, while efforts are ongoing to capture additional perpetrators involved in the illegal operation.
