Court refuses to bar PDP from postponing October 24 NEC meeting in Abuja

The Federal High Court, Gusau division in Zamfara State, has ruled against halting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from postponing its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting planned for Thursday, October 24, at Wadata House in Abuja.

The court specifically did not grant a request to stop the party from rescheduling this meeting, which is aimed at addressing ongoing leadership conflicts within the party.

In an ex-parte application filed by PDP member Mr. Imam Auwal, Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim refused to issue an interim injunction that would block the postponement of the NEC meeting.

A certified copy of the court’s order, obtained by DAILY POST, confirmed the judge’s decision. Auwal, through his attorney Ibrahim Ali, sought an order preventing the PDP from delaying the meeting and to affirm that only the meeting on October 24 should be recognized.

Furthermore, Auwal requested the court to issue an order prohibiting the National Working Committee (NWC) from acknowledging Mr. Ali Odeifa, the suspended National Vice Chairman from the South East, as a party official.

After reviewing the arguments presented in the ex-parte motion, the judge declined all requests. Instead, Justice Ibrahim ordered the plaintiff to inform the defendants regarding the main issue and scheduled a hearing for Friday, October 25.

Additionally, the plaintiff had requested an injunction against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent it from accepting any communications from the PDP until a substantive National Chairman is appointed, which Justice Ibrahim also denied.
