Power has been restored in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, and other parts of Nigeria’s North-East region two weeks after a significant blackout, as reported by DAILY POST. This extended power outage was caused by the vandalism of several electrical stations.
While details about the damage and the perpetrators have not been disclosed by authorities, the restoration has provided much-needed relief for residents and local businesses affected by the outage.
Small business owners told DAILY POST that the return of electricity has eased their struggles and allowed them to resume their work. They urged state officials and regional leaders to collaborate with the power distribution company to avert future outages and called for a partnership with security agencies to safeguard infrastructure against vandalism.
Lazarus Udeh, a local vulcanizer, argued that enlisting security personnel is crucial for preventing ongoing power disruptions in the area. He pointed out that the lengthy blackout adversely affected both individuals and the state government, encouraging the government to support the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) in improving services.
Although power has been reinstated, some areas in Jalingo continue to experience unreliable electricity supply. A YEDC staff member, who asked to remain unnamed, revealed that the company is diligently working to ensure a stable power supply across the state.
