The Nigerian Medical Association’s Zamfara State chapter has reiterated its call for the Federal Government to urgently tackle the ongoing security challenges in the region. The association noted that these issues have adversely affected the delicate health sector.
During a press briefing in Gusau, Dr. Mohammed Murtala, Vice Chairman of the Association, urged the Zamfara State Government to boost funding for healthcare and improve the working conditions for health professionals in the state.
He indicated that the NMA is not only worried about the cholera and diphtheria outbreaks but is also ready to partner with the state government to combat these diseases and enhance health metrics.
“To this end, we will focus on the cholera and diphtheria outbreaks at our 2024 Scientific Conference as part of our Physician Week activities,” he mentioned.
The NMA acknowledged the governor’s efforts in upgrading health facilities, including the modernization of general hospitals and the Ahmad Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, the state’s sole tertiary hospital.
The association urged the Zamfara State Government to strengthen its response to the diphtheria and cholera outbreaks and to collaborate with various health unions across the state.
