Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff, was laid to rest in Abuja amid emotional tributes, marking the end of a remarkable military career that spanned decades.
The burial, held at the National Cemetery in the capital, concluded two days of funeral proceedings that began earlier in Lagos.
His body was committed to the earth at 4:41 pm following a ceremony that lasted more than two hours.
The casket, draped in Nigeria’s national colors of green and white, arrived at the cemetery around 3 pm in a white funeral vehicle after a service at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
A service of songs had been conducted the previous day at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground in Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
Earlier on Thursday, a Nigerian Air Force plane transporting Lagbaja’s body touched down at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at about 12:15 pm.
