The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma has successfully destroyed a key bandit stronghold located in the Dunya Hill and Batauna forests of Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
He explained that the strategic airstrikes, conducted on November 12, were part of Operation Farautar Mujiya, an intensified air interdiction campaign targeting criminal activities in the North-West region.
The targeted areas, known for their dense vegetation and natural cave formations, have long served as safe havens for bandit groups. The airstrikes aimed to dismantle these entrenched networks and weaken their operational capacity.
According to Akinboyewa, the operation was preceded by extensive intelligence gathering, which identified high-value targets, including logistics hubs and hidden weapon stockpiles. The strikes resulted in the neutralization of numerous bandits and the destruction of critical resources vital to their activities.
“Since the launch of this intensified campaign, credible community sources have reported that the bandits are in disarray, fleeing their previously secure hideouts. Multiple accounts also confirm the escape and liberation of several kidnap victims who gained freedom amid the chaos inflicted on their captors,” he said.
Akinboyewa added that the precision airstrikes are designed to incapacitate criminal elements in the North-West, providing a significant advantage to ground forces.
“This ongoing effort underscores the Armed Forces’ determination to restore peace and security while giving hope to communities that have endured years of banditry threats.
“Further updates on the outcomes of Operation Farautar Mujiya will be shared in the coming days,” he concluded.
