The Senate has approved the 2023 supplementary budget of N2.17 trillion.

The Nigerian Senate has approved the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, which amounts to N2.17 trillion. This bill was recently forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu. The Senate’s decision to pass the bill came after they accepted the report from the joint sessions of both houses, as presented by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations (APC Ogun West).

As a reminder, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration initially submitted a budget of N2.1 trillion to the National Assembly, following approval by the Federal Executive Council on Monday. Some of the major allocations within this budget include N210 billion for Civil Servants’ Wage Awards, N605 billion for National Security and Defense, N300 billion for bridge maintenance, with a focus on the Eko bridge, N400 billion for cash transfers to vulnerable households, N200 billion for agricultural inputs and equipment, and N18 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct off-season elections.
