Eighteen out of twenty-four lawmakers in the Zamfara State House of Assembly have removed Speaker Hon. Bilyaminu Moriki from his position. In his place, Hon. Bashar Gummi has been ratified as the pro-tempo Speaker.
This decision was reached unanimously during an emergency meeting held on Thursday night, where it was reported that the motion for impeachment was initiated by one of the members representing Maru Constituency, Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi.
The lawmakers cited the ongoing resurgence of insecurity due to persistent attacks by bandits on communities across the state as a primary reason for the Speaker’s impeachment.
According to reports, the ousted Speaker had been absent from the state for several days before his removal.
Hon. Shamsudeen Basko, representing Talata Mafara, emphasized that addressing the issue of insecurity was paramount and played a significant role in the decision to impeach the former Speaker. He urged the new Speaker to prioritize efforts to combat insecurity and protect Zamfara residents from bandit attacks.
Meanwhile, it was noted that Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is currently absent from the state.
