Alia: Benue govt debunks allegations of N20b fraud

The Benue State Government has refuted claims suggesting that approximately N20 billion in federal allocation meant for local governments was diverted.

According to DAILY POST, the Global Integrity Crusade Network (GICN) alleged that the state governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, instructed his Special Adviser on Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Dr. Denis Akura, to misappropriate the substantial sum.

In response, the state government issued a statement on Wednesday through Akura, denying the allegations and labeling them as deceitful.

Akura clarified that he was not in charge of the bureau from June to October 2, 2023, and thus, any reference to him during that period only reveals the ulterior motive behind GICN’s unfounded accusations.

The statement also clarified that the bureau’s management lacks the authority to distribute palliatives or Christmas relief materials, contrary to claims in certain media reports.

Expressing disdain for GICN’s claims, Akura anticipated more such reports in the future, particularly as the Alia administration’s reforms in various government sectors gain momentum.
