The Jigawa Government revealed that it has prosecuted a total of 403 people arrested during the EndBadGovernance protests in August. Bello Abdulkadir-Fanini, the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, made this announcement on Monday while addressing reporters in Dutse. He indicated that those convicted received sentences involving community service, while others facing criminal charges were released on bail as investigations continued.
He emphasized that, by mid-September, no one arrested in relation to the protests remained in detention. “During the review period, from September 1, 2024, to today, our ministry has achieved notable success in executing its duties through its main departments. The public prosecution department has effectively prosecuted 403 individuals involved in the August 1, 2024 riot in Jigawa State. As of mid-September, there were no detainees left,” he said.
