Baltasar Engonga: Equatorial Guinea’s ex-ANIF boss remanded in prison

Baltasar Engonga, recently dismissed as Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been remanded in custody.

Engonga is currently detained at Malabo’s notorious Black Beach Prison.

The former ANIF leader was implicated in a major scandal involving around 400 sex tapes with influential women, which surfaced during a fraud investigation.

These recordings, found in Engonga’s home and office, sparked widespread outrage.

President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo terminated Engonga’s position, citing irregularities and inappropriate behavior, as stated in Decree No. 118/2024 issued on November 4.

Afrikmatin, a French blog, reported that Engonga was officially removed on November 6 and taken to Malabo Central Prison on corruption and embezzlement charges.
