Breaking News: court has mandated the immediate release of the former Governor of CBN, Emefiele.

The Federal Capital Territory High Court has issued a direct and immediate command for the prompt release of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, without any conditions.

Justice O.A. Adeniyi issued this order in response to a motion submitted by Emefiele in which he requested his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) until the formal hearing and resolution of the main legal case.

After considering the motion, the judge decreed Emefiele’s release. Emefiele listed the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, and the EFCC itself as the parties involved.

The court instructed the Executive Chairman and the EFCC, identified as the 3rd and 4th respondents, to release Emefiele immediately and without any conditions. As an alternative, they were directed to present him in court on the scheduled date for the main legal case, with the potential of being granted bail by the court.

The court has designated Monday, November 6, 2023, as the date for the formal hearing of the main legal case.
