Delta CP urges security personnel to be professional

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwanda Olufemi, has cautioned members of the vigilante, anti-cult members and hunters association to be professional in their assigned duties.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with security stakeholders at the weekend in Asaba as part of the activities to mark National Police Day, Olufemi said they should avoid taking laws into their hands, citing Edo incident where some persons were allegedly killed.

The CP also led the activities which saw free medical services and cleaning up of streets, drains and market in Asaba, the state capital.

He said, “Don’t do things that will bring shame to this command. Don’t take action like vigilant in Edo state.
“Information is very very critical and sensitive, that’s why you don’t share it any how because we have betrayal in our midst.

“Don’t take decision that is cable to embrace this command. If the vigilante in Edo state had informed police, the incident would have been averted.

“We are in partnership with you because police cannot do it alone and we appreciate your partnership in addressing the security challenge in the state.

“This town hall meeting with you is to brainstorm and interact ways of addressing the security challenges in the state and this kind of meeting will be holding every month especially at DPO level.”

Olufemi, however, urged the security volunteers to ensure that they do the right thing, noting that the people that make up police personnel are our brothers and sisters and did not come from outside the country, saying that there must be Judas among twelve disciples.

He lamented the manner of using vigilante, anti-cult ID card for their personal gain to beat security agencies while carrying illicit drugs.
