The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has named Olatunji Disu as the new Commissioner of Police for Rivers State. Additionally, IGP Egbetokun has assigned seven police officers to various leadership roles as part of ongoing efforts to bolster security, combat violent crimes, and improve the coordination of police operations throughout Nigeria.
These appointments have been officially communicated in a dispatch received by DAILY POST. The reassignment of these senior police officers is effective immediately.
In the communication, the police chief has urged the new Commissioners of Police to exhibit their professional competence in their respective new roles across the country.
Olatunji Disu takes over as the new Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, succeeding CP Nwonyi Emeka. This change comes shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara accused certain police officers of attempting to harm him when he inspected the damage done to the State House of Assembly following an explosion that severely affected its chambers. The State House of Assembly had also made an attempt to impeach Governor Fubara, resulting in several days of protests by the state’s youth, which led to the arrest of 150 individuals and the unfortunate death of a young person due to a stray bullet fired by the police.
Disu’s appointment follows his promotion, along with thirty-two others, from the rank of deputy commissioner of police to commissioner of police just seven months ago. He had previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and had also worked as the Deputy Head of the Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department for Rivers Command.
