Flight operations at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos have been redirected to the D Wing due to a fire incident. The fire occurred at the E54 Passenger Air Bridge in the domestic wing of the airport. According to a press release from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), issued by Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the incident took place at 5:29 am on Thursday.
FAAN’s Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) swiftly responded to the situation, arriving at the scene by 5:30 am. Power to the entire E Wing was promptly cut off after smoke was detected billowing from the E54 Bridge. The fire was brought under control by 6:41 am, and efforts to clear the smoke from the building were underway.
While an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire, initial suspicions point to sparks from an electrical unit. Consequently, all flight operations at Terminal 1 have been redirected to the D Wing until further notice. More details regarding the incident will be provided shortly.
