The Kano Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken custody of 10 human trafficking victims rescued by the Nigeria Police Force in Kano.
Zonal Commander Abdullahi Babale disclosed this on Thursday while receiving the victims from the Kano State Police Command.
The rescue, carried out on December 7 by a team led by CSP Bala Shuaibu, took place at about 2:40 PM in a residence at Rijiyar Lemu Quarters, Kano. The victims, comprising six females and four males aged between 22 and 42, were reportedly on their way to Libya for labor exploitation.
Babale revealed that the rescued individuals originated from Delta, Edo, Osun, Ogun, and Lagos states.
He praised the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo-Garba, for his cooperation and support in facilitating the rescue.
The victims will receive counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families. Babale urged parents to protect their children from traffickers who exploit people under the pretext of offering better opportunities abroad.
He also called on the public to report any suspected cases of human trafficking in their communities to the appropriate authorities.
