Navy doubles operations against oil theft in Bayelsa, recovers 17,000 litres of stolen crude

The Nigerian Navy Ship, SOROH, has heightened its Operation Cordon and Search within its designated area of responsibility in Bayelsa, as disclosed by Commodore Olushina Ojebode, the Commander of NNS SOROH, in Diebu community, Southern Ijaw.

During patrols conducted between January 22 and 29, troops discovered and dismantled illicitly refined products. In a building in Diebu community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa, 17,000 liters of products suspected to be derived from stolen crude oil were recovered.

The Commander, represented by Capt. Suleiman Abdulahi, clarified that the operation aligns with the objectives of the Nigerian Navy’s Operation Delta Sanity, aimed at eradicating oil theft and illegal bunkering. He highlighted that the operation has achieved success, particularly within the area of operations of the Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH.

The Navy’s patrol team, stationed at Naval Security Station (NNS 030), discovered illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil equivalent to 1,200 liters during a patrol at Zion Area of Ezetu community, Southern Ijaw. Additionally, in Gbaran community, a wooden boat carrying 275 sacks of illegally refined AGO, equivalent to about 16,500 liters, was intercepted.

The commander reported that all recovered items were handled according to established procedures for anti-crude oil theft operations. Moreover, on January 23, a patrol team of NNS SOROH acted on credible intelligence, conducting operations around Sangana General Area where 30 sacks of illegally refined AGO, equivalent to 1,800 liters, were discovered and appropriately addressed.
