The Acting Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria, Shaka Imalighwe, has revealed that the institution lacks any helicopters for training purposes. This disclosure was made during an inquiry conducted by the House of Representatives regarding the sale of two helicopters owned by the College.
Imalighwe, who assumed his role in January 2024, clarified that he was not involved in the sale process despite serving as the Deputy Rector when the helicopters were sold. Ademorin Kuye, the Chairman of the House Committee, expressed alarm over the sale of the helicopters to private individuals, leaving the College without any helicopters for training.
The committee questioned the sale procedure, especially since security agencies such as the Nigerian Air Force, Navy, and Police had shown interest in purchasing them, both in writing and through site visits. However, the College management rejected their offers. In response, the committee summoned former and current Ministers of Aviation, representatives from the Ministries of Works and Finance, as well as past and present rectors of the College for further investigation.
