The Nigerian government has commenced February salary payment to Federal Government civil servants, DAILY POST reports.
The spokesperson of Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, disclosed this to DAILY POST on Thursday in an exclusive interview.
He noted that the government has put in place disbursement requirements to kickoff February salary payment and workers will start receiving alert before the end of Thursday.
“February salary payment will start trickling in today (Thursday). I can confirm to you that everything has been put in place to make salary payment to civil servants commence.
“From Thursday, civil servants will start receiving alerts,” he told DAILY POST.
He added that February salaries will be paid without shortfalls contrary to claims.
According to him, the ‘purported shortfalls’ in January salary was as a result of the completion of payment of new minimum wage and other arrears from September 2024.
“It is a misunderstanding. What some persons called shortfalls in their salary was not as described. From September to December 2024, civil servants were paid minimum wage and other bonus arrears which shot up their total take-home and salary budget.
“However, from Janaury, all the arrears were cleared hence they returned to their due monthly salary,” he explained.
Meanwhile, days back, the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, JPSNC, had explained the January salary shortfalls were due to a system error in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.
DAILY POST recalls that in July 2024, Tinubu signed the N70,000 new minimum wage bill into law.
