The Nigerian Government has made a decision to conduct an audit of the N23 trillion debt incurred through Ways and Means. This decision was announced by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, during the ongoing Public Wealth Management Conference organized by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated. Edun stated that the Federal Government intends to present a bill to the National Assembly soon, aimed at eliminating “all taxes and levies that are burdensome” from the country’s tax system, as a step towards reducing future Ways and Means indebtedness.
The minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing policies that will enable it to generate revenue in real time from Government Owned Enterprises and Corporate entities.
More details on this matter will be provided shortly.
