The Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court’s December ruling on Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been officially released. Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, shared this information in a post on X, stating that the Supreme Court has assured the transmission of Kanu’s case file to the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In December 2023, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal for Kanu’s release and overturned the Abuja Appeal Court’s decision that had acquitted him of all terrorism charges. The Supreme Court directed the transfer of Kanu’s case back to the Federal High Court in Abuja for the continuation of his trial. Despite criticizing the Nigerian Government for the extraordinary rendition of Kanu from Kenya in June 2021, the Supreme Court ordered the trial’s resumption.
Due to the delay in obtaining the Certified True Copy, there has been mounting pressure from Kanu’s legal team and IPOB for the release of the document and the subsequent transfer of the case file to the lower court.
