PDP crisis: Stop talking of contesting 2027 presidential election, focus on party – Saraki

Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put party interests above personal goals as they navigate the party’s leadership turmoil.

Addressing PDP members at an event in Abuja, Saraki stressed that the party’s long-standing values and accomplishments should not be sacrificed for individual aspirations.

This appeal from Saraki comes amidst factional disputes within the PDP, tracing back to divisions before the 2023 presidential election, when key figures like Nyesom Wike, Governor Seyi Makinde, and several former governors worked against the party’s chosen candidate.

Since that election, the PDP has been facing ongoing leadership challenges.

Saraki noted, “The PDP was founded on core ideas, values, and policies. We need to move beyond personal ambition and refocus on our party’s purpose. Without a united party, individual aspirations are meaningless. Our journey begins with these shared ideas.”

He further urged, “Let’s avoid discussions about future candidates for 2027. Instead, let’s concentrate on the PDP’s identity and the issues we must address for Nigerians. This is the leadership Nigerians expect from us.”

He concluded, “Our message to Nigerians must be that PDP is a serious, purpose-driven party, guided by leaders committed to setting an example.”
