Police dismiss two officers soliciting money from tourist in viral video

On Thursday, special constables Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Lukman were terminated from their positions by the Oyo State Police Command due to allegations of extortion. The Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, made the announcement during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan. The constables were reportedly caught on a viral video soliciting money from Ms. Noraly Schoenmaker, a tourist from the Netherlands, along the Moniya-Iseyin Road on October 23, 2023.

Commissioner Hamzat stated that the dismissed constables intentionally ignored numerous orders and directives regarding professional misconduct, extortion, lack of civility, and corruption. He emphasized the consistent warnings against extortion and the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption, aligning with the stance of the Inspector General of Police. The Commissioner of Police was firm in declaring that the command does not condone corruption and is committed to maintaining a positive reputation.
