Presidency distances self from 2027 campaign billboards in FCT, Kano

The Presidency has disassociated itself from the 2027 presidential campaign billboards featuring President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu spotted in Abuja and Kano.

In a statement released by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency made it clear that any campaign activity ahead of INEC’s official timeline is unauthorised and violates electoral laws.

“We’ve noticed with concern the growing number of billboards promoting a 2027 campaign for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. These are particularly visible in Abuja and Kano,” Onanuga stated.

While appreciating the support and enthusiasm of their followers, the statement emphasized that neither the President nor his Vice supports premature political campaigning.

“The Electoral Act prohibits campaigning before INEC gives the green light. Such early moves can compromise the integrity of the process and give unfair advantage. President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima will not support anything that weakens democratic institutions,” it read.

The Presidency urged those behind the billboards and other campaign materials—whether on billboards, in print, or via digital and broadcast media—to immediately halt their activities.

“No group or individual has been endorsed or authorized by the President to begin any form of campaign for 2027,” the statement clarified.

It concluded by reaffirming the administration’s current focus:

“President Tinubu and his Vice are dedicated to their present responsibilities—reviving the economy, enhancing human capital, improving infrastructure, investing in social programs, and securing the nation. When the time comes and INEC opens the window, the President will inform the nation of his intentions.”
