Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has expressed regret over the mismanagement of Nigeria by the previous administration.
Sani’s reaction came following the disclosure that 753 duplexes were recovered, even as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) frequently went on strike due to unpaid salaries.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed on Monday that Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered the forfeiture of an estate in Abuja, spanning 150,500 square meters, to the federal government.
The estate, located on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, comprises 753 duplexes and other apartments. According to the EFCC, this marked the largest asset recovery in the agency’s history since its establishment in 2003.
The property was linked to a government official, though the EFCC did not disclose their identity.
Reacting via X, Sani stated:
“753 duplexes? At a time when ASUU was on strike, and students were stuck at home for months because ‘there was no money to pay lecturers.’
“It’s unfortunate. This is a clear example of how the country was mismanaged.”
