A high-ranking terrorist commander has surrendered to the Nigerian Army in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, releasing 10 hostages, including seven women and three children.
As a sign of his commitment to renouncing violence, the militant leader also handed over two AK-47 rifles to the military.
This development was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama on his official X handle on Monday.
According to Makama, security sources consider the surrender a significant step in weakening terrorist networks within the state.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA successfully thwarted an attempted terrorist attack in Unguwan Baki village, Faskari Local Government Area. Overpowered by superior firepower, the insurgents fled into the forest, abandoning their motorcycles.
