Why electricity supply dropped nationwide – Power Minister Adelabu explains

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has provided insights into the nationwide reduction in electricity supply, attributing the decline to gas limitations faced by thermal generating companies. Adelabu expressed this explanation in a statement released on Friday by Bolaji Tunji, the Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the Minister of Power.

According to Adelabu, the federal government is actively addressing the issue by ensuring that outstanding payments to power generation companies are promptly settled, with the aim of resolving the current decrease in power supply. He clarified that the reduced gas supply to these generation companies has resulted in a diminished energy output, impacting the electricity supply to distribution companies and, consequently, affecting consumers nationwide.

The minister emphasized the government’s recognition of the unsustainable situation and assured that measures are being taken to bring about an immediate turnaround in the power supply scenario. It was previously reported that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had linked the decline in bulk power supply to constraints in gas availability.

In response to the challenges faced, Electricity Distribution Companies across the country issued apologies to consumers for the reduction in power supply.
