Governor Dauda Lawal has made it clear that the Zamfara State Government did not impose a ban on bread production anywhere in the State.
The Bakers Association in the State had ceased bread production following the government’s restriction on motorcycles delivering bread to areas controlled by bandits.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Gusau, the spokesperson for the Zamfara Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, clarified that the government’s directive specifically aimed at disrupting the supply chain to bandits across the state.
The statement emphasized: “The Zamfara State Government wishes to address the circulating rumors alleging a ban on bread production by bakers in the state. We firmly refute these claims as they have caused unwarranted confusion and concern among residents and business operators.
“The government asserts unequivocally that it has no intention of interfering with bread production or sales, a fundamental staple in many households across the state.
“Moreover, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting local enterprises and ensuring the populace’s access to essential food items. We acknowledge the critical role played by small businesses in our state’s economy and remain steadfast in creating conducive conditions for their growth.
“In devising a strategy to counter the disruptive activities of bandits in certain regions, we have implemented measures such as restricting the supply of bread and fuel to unstable areas. This tactical move aims to disrupt the bandits’ operations as they heavily rely on these commodities to carry out their criminal activities.
“The Zamfara State Government anticipates that through the enforcement of this restriction, peace and security can be restored in affected areas, thereby safeguarding lives and properties. This measure forms part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving these objectives.”
