Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has appealed to opposition parties to join forces with his administration in its rescue mission, underscoring that the recent Supreme Court ruling marked a triumph for the people of Zamfara.
On January 12, 2024, the Apex court nullified the decision of the Court of Appeal Abuja, which had declared the Zamfara Governorship Election inconclusive.
“Justice Emmanuel Agim, delivering the lead decision of the Supreme Court, described the judgment of the lower Court of Appeal as perverse and lacking evidential foundation,” stated the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris. The Apex court’s decision, as per the statement, reflects the people’s aspirations for positive development and progress.
The statement emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable state development, asserting that the success of collective efforts hinges on the active participation of all stakeholders. It urged prioritizing collaboration for a better future for the state.
Governor Lawal expressed his satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election, stating that the verdict would boost morale in fulfilling campaign promises. He described the victory as an affirmation of the collective decision made by the people of Zamfara during the governorship election in March the previous year.
Highlighting his administration’s commitment to a rescue mission from poor governance, the Governor called on all Zamfara residents, including opposition parties, to come together and work towards rebuilding and restoring the state. He viewed the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for the people who placed their trust in him.
